I painted this piece on the same day we went to the Inverness boatwreck. It was such a beautiful day with gentle weather. September and October are the best days to be on the Northern California coast, and we are taking advantage of it. I was a little worried about the bright blue casein undertone overwhelming the colors, but it actually worked really well to set the tone of the sky and the shadows of the barn. It took a lot of paint to cover the paper in the light parts, but it was worth it, because I really think it makes the light planes of the barn sing.
