7x7 inches. Gouache on toned paper.

Another piece done for Heather Ihn Martin's Facebook group challenge! this Mexican doll that my mom has in the house. She has it stashed way up at the top of the big shelf in the living room! The grandkids play with her when they come over sometimes, though.

Was playing around with a different way of painting in gouache. I started with painting every shape as a thin solid shape of color, minimally modulated. I then painted the darks opaquely over them, then the lights. I just kept layering different values in both directions over the pre-existing shapes. The only time I attempted to vary the edges deliberately was in her face. The rest was just observing the plane changes as flat shapes of color.
