A great way that Vanessa and I happen to spend the first day of spring is to do the epic wildflower hike up the Oat Hill Mine Trail in Calistoga, CA. We've gotten in better hiking shape so it was a much more pleasant hike this time around. We looked around the summit of the hill at all the epic views, but our tiny setups didn't feel justified to handle the epic views of the entire Napa Valley up there. I decided to focus in on a pretty little patch of lupines growing on top of a rock. My favorite part of this painting was the variety of textures.
